Prof. Ömer ÖZKAN is the head of the Organ Transplantation Institute and leads a highly qualified team of doctors who have performed a number of unique surgeries, including the first successful uterus transplantation in the world (2 so far); the first successful transplantation of both upper limbs in Türkiye (5 so far).
The TÜSEB Aziz Sankar Award and the award in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye were a symbol of recognition of his scientific achievements and services to society.

In 2023, Associate Professor Ebru Sanhal, a highly qualified radiologist, joined the team of experienced professionals that Bergem Health has partnered with.
Now, thanks to Associate Professor Ebru Sanhal, our patients with breast diseases can undergo interventional procedures for screening/diagnostic purposes such as ultrasound-guided vacuum biopsy/tomosynthesis/mammography with contrast, thick needle biopsy (tru-cut biopsy), wire localization under ultrasound/mammography, marking of tumor and axillary lymph nodes with clips/markers before chemotherapy in patients diagnosed with breast cancer, diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures under imaging control (fine needle aspiration biopsy).
Since 2023, Bergem Health has established a collaboration with Associate Professor Mustafa KARAJA, who is a leading oncologist in Türkiye.
Associate Professor Mustafa KARACA’s main goal is to gain professional experience that can be transformed into successful treatment of patients suffering from breast cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, gynecological cancer and melanoma.
Bergem Health has intensified its cooperation with the Department of Radiation Oncology at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, offering advanced treatment methods and technologies to patients
Since 2023, the Department of Radiation Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Akdeniz University has been using Elekta Flexitron HDR treatment equipment with Ir-192 source, the most advanced brachytherapy system (a type of radiotherapy in which the radiation source is injected inside the affected organ, allowing maximum doses of radiation therapy to be delivered directly to the tumor focus while minimizing the impact on critical organs and adjacent tissues) and Oncentra TPS system.
Medicine is one of the sectors whose development in the XXI century is a priority for the Republic of Türkiye, which provides its financial, material-technical and personnel support. As a result, a significant number of medical institutions in Türkiye today meet all international quality standards.

Tomotherapy, an effective and non-invasive method of radiation therapy, is actively used in Turkish medicine. Da-Vinci robot is also widely used for surgical operations, which reduces the risks of complications and speeds up patients’ recovery after surgery.
Promptness of medical services is a very important option. From the moment the patient’s medical documents are received, the medical institution usually responds within the first 24 hours (up to 48 hours in cases where consultation of several specialists is required).
As soon as the patient arrives in Türkiye, he or she is examined and, if necessary, admitted to the hospital. There is no queue and no waiting time for foreign patients. The patient receives the results of CT, MRI, PET examinations within a few hours, maximum – the next day.
The clinics to which we refer our patients offer comfortable accommodations, an inclusive and safe environment, and sanitary and hygienic conditions that meet standards.
One person accompanying the patient may stay in the medical facility free of charge during the period of hospitalization. Both the patient and the companion are provided with meals and other amenities.

What is the JCI certificate? Which medical facilities receive it?
JCI (Joint Commission International) is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to improving quality and safety in healthcare for decades. It is the largest accreditation agency in the United States and the world.
This means that the availability of a JCI certificate guarantees the high quality of services and is issued to hospitals that have reached a level that meets international medical and administrative standards. This is a vote of confidence for patients traveling outside their country in search of quality medical care.
Is it cheaper to be treated in Türkiye than in Western Europe, Israel or the USA?
Indeed it is. With comparable quality of medical services, the cost of the vast majority of them in Türkiye is lower than in Western Europe, Israel or the USA. For comparison, in Israeli clinics an oncologist’s appointment averages 750€, in Turkish clinics – from 100 to 160€. For some medical services the cost in Turkey is 10 times lower. For example, childbirth in the USA costs on average 35000$, while in Turkey it costs 2000-3000$.
It is believed that cancer is better treated in Israel or Germany. Is this true?
We know many cases where patients have used medical services in these countries, but after trying treatment in Türkiye, they preferred it. Turkish oncologists actively use the world treatment protocols. So far, there is no unique service in Israel or Germany that patients with this problem would not find in Türkiye. In addition, it is very difficult to find in other countries so much attention of doctors, medical workers, interpreters and the level of comfort patients receive in Türkiye. The difference in prices is also important – complex and lengthy treatment, unfortunately, is not cheap. In this sense, Türkiye is a much better option than most other countries in the world.
What advanced equipment, methods and technologies for cancer treatment can Bergem Health provide?
Thanks to Bergem Health’s cooperation with the Department of Radiation Oncology at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, advanced equipment, methods and treatment technologies are offered to patients.
1. The Accuray TomoTerapi HDA is an advanced radiation therapy machine that delivers precise treatment to tumours with minimal impact on healthy tissue. It supports a variety of treatment modalities, including stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy. It also adapts the treatment plan based on changes in the patient’s condition, using 3D visualisation for more precise control.
2. The Elekta Synergy linear accelerator with Agility head fine-tunes the treatment zones with its 160 blades, allowing it to precisely follow the shape of the tumour. The accelerator supports multiple treatment modalities, including 3D conformal radiotherapy, IMRT, VMAT and stereotactic radiosurgery and therapy. 2D, 3D and 4D imaging is used for monitoring during treatment. Patient positioning is highly accurate thanks to the HexaPOD robotic table, and a special ABC device improves the precision of treatment of moving tumours by protecting surrounding tissue.
3. Elekta Synergy linear accelerator platform
– 3D conformal radiotherapy (3BKRT) and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) can be used.
– Image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) is delivered using two-dimensional portal (MV) imaging.
4. GE Discovery RT Computed Tomography
– Four-dimensional imaging provides more accurate imaging of tumours that move with respiration.

What to do if you are concerned about language barrier?
We recognize that one of the biggest concerns for international patients is the language barrier. For this reason, our patients are provided with interpreters who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If a patient has communication problems in a medical facility, at home or while on vacation, he/she can contact interpreter to deal with the language barrier. If necessary, the personal presence of the interpreter is possible.
By the way, all the doctors we work with are fluent in English.
Do patients need to order translation of their medical documents in order to apply for medical services in Türkiye?
It is not necessary as Bergem Health provides translation services for medical documents if needed.
