Şahande Elagöz was born in Ankara in 1965 and graduated from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1988. She completed her pathology specialisation at Cumhuriyet University in 1996 and spent her academic career there, rising to professor and serving as head of the Pathology Department; her AVESIS record shows undergraduate pathology teaching from the mid-2000s onward. She moved to Bezmiâlem Vakıf University in Istanbul in 2018 and joined Memorial Göztepe Hospital in 2025. Her published work covers breast cancer prognostic markers (androgen receptor, Ki-67), thyroid microRNA expression, salivary gland tumours and fine-needle aspiration cytology, and experimental pulmonary pathology.
