Reconstructive microsurgeon at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, where she has headed the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery since 2010 and has held the post of University Rector since August 2020. She completed her medical degree (1995–2001) and her residency in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery (2004–2008) at Akdeniz University, became Associate Professor in 2010 and Professor in 2018. According to Akdeniz University's official rector biography she was a member of the surgical teams that performed Turkey's first bilateral arm transplant (2010), the world's first deceased-donor uterus transplant (2011) and Turkey's first face transplant (2012). Her published work centres on vascularized composite allotransplantation (face and limb), uterus transplantation and outcomes after it, free-flap reconstruction and replantation. She is a co-author of the international Delphi consensus recommendations on face transplantation (American Journal of Transplantation, 2024).
