Frequently asked about IVF

What is the IVF success rate by maternal age at Turkish JCI hospitals?
At Memorial and Liv, live-birth rates per embryo transfer typically run 50-55% under 35, 40-45% at 35-37, 30-35% at 38-40, 15-20% at 41-42, and under 10% over 42 with own eggs. Figures follow ESHRE reporting standards and depend on ovarian reserve (AMH/AFC) and embryo quality after blastocyst culture.
When is ICSI indicated instead of conventional IVF?
ICSI is recommended for severe male factor (concentration <5 M/mL, motility <30%, abnormal morphology), prior fertilization failure, frozen or surgically retrieved sperm (TESE/PESA), and cycles using PGT-A. Turkish embryology labs perform ICSI under 400x magnification; IMSI or PICSI is added for repeated fertilization issues.
Who is a candidate for PGT-A preimplantation testing?
PGT-A is offered to women 37+, couples with recurrent pregnancy loss (2+ miscarriages), repeated implantation failure (3+ transfers), severe male factor, or prior aneuploid pregnancy. Trophectoderm biopsy is done on day 5-6 blastocysts; embryos are vitrified pending NGS results, then transferred in a medicated FET cycle.
Is donor egg IVF legal in Turkey for international patients?
No. Turkish law prohibits third-party gametes (donor egg, donor sperm, surrogacy) for everyone including foreigners. Patients needing donor eggs are referred to partner clinics in Cyprus, Georgia, or Spain. We assist with the medical workup in Turkey and coordinate the donor cycle abroad if indicated.
Frozen embryo transfer or fresh — which gives better results?
For most patients, vitrified FET in a subsequent cycle now matches or exceeds fresh transfer, especially with PGT-A, high responders at OHSS risk, progesterone elevation on trigger day, or endometrium under 7 mm. Fresh transfer remains reasonable for normal responders with optimal endometrium and no genetic testing planned.
What workup is done after recurrent implantation failure?
After 3 failed transfers of good-quality embryos, evaluation includes hysteroscopy, ERA endometrial receptivity test, immunology (NK cells, thrombophilia panel, antiphospholipid antibodies), chronic endometritis (CD138 biopsy), karyotype of both partners, and sperm DNA fragmentation. PGT-A is added if not done. Protocol is adjusted based on findings.
How is multiple pregnancy risk managed during IVF?
Single embryo transfer (eSET) is standard at Memorial and Liv for women under 38 with a good-quality blastocyst, reducing twin rates to under 2%. Double transfer is considered after 40 or with poor embryo quality. Vitrification of surplus embryos allows sequential single transfers without losing cumulative pregnancy rates.
