Gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine. He graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine (1986–1992), completed his internal medicine residency at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (Çapa, 1992–1996) and his gastroenterology fellowship at the same institution (1996–2000). He joined the Akdeniz University gastroenterology division as a specialist in 2000, became Associate Professor in 2002 and Professor in 2009, and headed the division from 2007 to 2010. His publications concentrate on chronic viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and C antiviral therapy), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, cirrhosis and its complications, hepatocellular carcinoma, liver transplantation outcomes and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. He contributes to Turkish multicentre liver registries and to international cirrhosis cohort studies (CLEARED investigators).
